Identification

A player’s entire tennis career is dependent on the medical subcomponent because injury prevention and treatment must always be taken into account so as to keep the player healthy and injury-free.

  1. Players should avoid taking undue risks when playing or practicing (throwing a racquet or slamming balls can cause stress on muscles and joints due to different movements. Jumping over the net is dangerous)
  2. Players should be aware of their bodies during play and practice. Shoes and racquets may cause blisters so players should not change those items unless they are accustomed to them. If a player realizes the grip and/or shoe(s) are feeling different, then they should stop playing with them and go back to what feels comfortable before a blister occurs.
  3. Players should eat foods they are accustomed to before playing and not try experimenting with new dishes, especially spicy foods (be extra careful when travelling to foreign countries)
  4. Players should be careful not to over train since this is the cause of overuse injuries and fatigue can also lead to other injuries.
  5. Rest is an essential component to staying healthy (not only joints and muscles, but also sicknesses)
  6. Proper rehabilitation and rest is the best way to recover from injury. Players should avoid returning too early to practice and competition, and should wait for the injury to heal properly before doing so.
